It was time to have a adventure as the world is loaded with incredible activities. So if you ask a question Where are you off to? “I am going on an adventure trip this time.”.

We came to know about Tarkali from one of our friend Ansu .After seeing the pics of his trip we decided to visit Tarkali for Scuba diving to have some adventurous activities. But finally after long planning and discussion we came to conclusion to visit Tarkarli in Christmas vacation .

Tarkali is a famous spot for Snorkeling and Scuba diving. Ayush , Ansu , Suhas, Ravi, Kumar Saurav and myself finally set off our adventurous trip late night on 24 Dec 2016. Everyone was excited for that trip as Our main intention to visit that place was Snorkeling and scuba diving.

Malvan is a town in Sindhudurg District, Maharashtra. It is known as Sindhudurg Fort, Malvani cuisine (Fish curry and Solkadi), Alphonso – Mango and local food. Malvan is considered as heaven for the non-vegetarians especially seafood lovers. Tarkarli is just 7 km from Malvan with very beautiful long coastline with white powder sand beaches, clear sea water.

Tourists get attracted towards Malvan – Tarkarli because of clean, beautiful beaches, Fort, lovely nature, and very less crowd. People generally opt to go to Goa as it is hardly 100 km away from Malvan.

We took Old Mumbai- Pune Highway .Tarkarli is around 500 km from Mumbai .We had one stop at Penn for tea and Snack , around 11 am ,we reached our destination Tarkarli.

After research and lot of enquires, we decided to stay at Heramb Beach Niwas. This was homestay and within our budget. Room was too good but the surrounding property was excellent. Tarkarli beach was just 2-3 min walk from our Room. We could hear the sea from our room.

In evening after spending 20-30 min on a beach,we decided to go to Tsunami Island beach. This island has emerged in 2004 after Tsunami waves hit the coast. A local fisherman told us that prior to 2004, this place used to be underwater at least by 3-4 feet even during the low tide. After the tsunami wave hit the coast, it has turned into an island during low tide but gets submerged by 2-3 feet during high tide. This island is very small and can see it during low tide. Water sports are arranged on this island and even during high tide, one can go there.

To reach to the Tsunami island you have to hire a boat local fisherman .(young boy) approached towards us and he was ready to take us there in his own small size fiber boat . The experience was thrilling and we entirely enjoyed this journey. Due to sea waves, the boat started rocking from side to side. Both fishermen managed to keep the boat steady.

The river flows on one side of village and sea on the other side and they meet at Devbag. The confluence was awsome site. The point were river and sea meet is also known as Sangam Point. We feel we were in a foreign land. There is an island called Tsunami Island across the river where all sports adventure activities take place.

At first we rushed for Parasailing as none of us had done it before .When we reached the water sports center we were asked to divide ourselves into groups of 2 to cover activities of para sailing. Since it was a dream come true of flying I didn’t reconsider before choosing to go do parasailing. We were all taken on a boat a little away from the shore before our guide gave us a helmet and life vest.

I and a dear friend were to parasailing together and I was excited like never before. We were asked to step on to the upper level of the boat where we were secured and hooked into the para sail. Once the rope was mechanically unwinding I wanted to scream and let the world know that I was doing something that I always wanted to do.

When we rose up to the sky we could see the whole world beneath us. The calm sea, the majestic island .. It was a breath taking view and I let myself indulge in this beauty of a para sail as it was something very remarkable.

We spend hours over on island and in terms of activities we did all the stuff available – banana ,boat ride, jumping ride, high speed boat . We even did the jet ski riding and the feeling was awesome . When sun started setting down we started our return journey from Tsunami island to Devbag beach.

During dinner we ordered famous Surmai fish meal (king mackerel or seer fish in English). Food was simply awesome .

Next day early morning we went to the beach for a walk. Clear weather and cool morning breeze from the sea made us feel fresh. Coconut trees are plentiful. Coconut water there was much sweeter than what one we used to gets in Mumbai.

Second day morning we met our diving instructor at our home stay. Post breakfast we all headed for scuba diving . We moved on small boat to the diving spot .

The diving instructor and his team were very humble .They briefed us on how to relax under-water & enjoy the view ( just forget about swimming abilities)…. best part was they were very friendly & gave us sufficient time to adjust with the breathing technique. The corals and marine creatures were very colorful and scenic. The water was pristine clear & hardly any turbulence, which made viewing and movement beneath sea that much easier.

That diving team was well-versed with under-sea layout in Tarkali- Malvan area, which was a huge advantage.In-fact the first experience was so thrilling, most of us opted to dive again on next day! It was lifetime experience .

  2. Definitely a must place to visit with good company. Few thing which i liked most about this place is the mesmerising view, authentic malvan food, comparatively less crowd than Goa.
